Watercolor and milk tea on paper 18” x 24” inches. 4.1.26, Detroit.
A single faceted tumbler lies on its side across a sheet of paper, the composition arranged along a diagonal that gives the scene a quiet, dynamic tension. The glass is rendered with delicate, controlled strokes that pick out its vertical ribs and the thicker band where the base meets the body. Because of the way the artist handled the medium, the glass reads as both solid and ethereal: cool blues, greens and faint violet trace the internal reflections and refracted light, while crisp white highlights mark where the light catches the rim and the top facets.
The cast shadow stretches away to the upper right, a wash of diluted browns and greys with soft edges and occasional darker ridges where pigment pooled — it anchors the tumbler to the paper and suggests a low, left-sided light source. Around the glass, the paper shows the telltale effects of watercolor: wet-on-wet bleeds, subtle blooms, and little spills that add texture and atmosphere. Through the body of the tumbler the background is warped and muted; the ribs bend the light and create a small, jewel-like play of color at the mouth of the glass.
Overall the image reads as a study in transparency and reflection — calm, observant, and intimate. The artist’s hand is evident in the loose, fluid background against the more deliberate rendering of the glass, producing a pleasing contrast between material precision and painterly openness.
Watercolor and ink on paper. 48” x 51” inch.
A single orange inner tube drifts lazily on a wide sheet of blue water. The ring is warm and saturated — a punch of coral-orange with highlights that make its rounded form feel buoyant and soft. A subtle shadow beneath it anchors the tube to the surface and suggests a gentle lift where it catches the light.
The water is rendered in many layered blues and aquamarines, from deep cobalt to pale cerulean. Rather than a flat plane, the surface reads like a mosaic of brushstrokes and washes: ripples, pools of color, and tiny flecks that give the impression of sunlight breaking into shards and dancing across the liquid. There’s a translucence to the layers, so you can almost sense shapes under the water and the shifting play of depth as the eye travels away from the tube.
Compositionally the ring is positioned off-center, which lends a casual, unforced feeling — as if the scene was caught at a quiet, unhurried moment. Overall the image balances warmth and coolness, solidity and fluidity: a bright, solitary object calmly floating amid a moving, textured expanse of blue. It reads peaceful and slightly introspective, like the hush of a late-afternoon pool or a slow summer moment suspended in time.

Watercolor and ink on paper. 60” x 51” inch.
A wash of blues dominates the picture, layered and variegated like water seen from just beneath the surface. The composition feels circular and swirling: the eye is pulled toward a loose, horizontal figure running left-to-right through the center that is denser and warmer in tone — a mix of green, brown and tiny flecks of gold and rust — as if a ribbon of seaweed, sand or sunlit detritus has been caught in a current. Around that central image of a woman swimming, are many small, irregular marks and translucent washes in aquamarine, teal, cobalt and pale sky blue, creating a tessellated, almost mosaic texture.
Lighter areas toward the upper left let more white show through, giving the sense of reflected light or thin ice, while deeper navy strokes in the lower right add weight and shadow. The surface looks built up from many thin layers: some passages are soft and diffused, others are crisper and more jagged, so the piece reads as both watery and slightly crystalline. The overall effect is restless and meditative at once — like a memory of water rendered in fragments that glint and move as you study them.
